6th Grade World Geography

Focus: Ancient Egypt

Classwork: students make their own scale model of the great pyramid of Giza (out of paper), decorate the inside of the pyramid, seal it with tape, and palce the symbols of the Eye of Horus and the Ankh on the outside of their pyramid.

Homework: if not finished with pyramid in class finish the coloring at home, don't tape it--we will tape them in class tomorrow!

7th Grade World History 3/19/09

Homework: Vocabulary quiz tomorrow, Friday---all the vocabulary covered so far in the Middle Ages Unit. You should have the words and the definitions in your journal. Some students chose to make a foldable for vocabulary, you should study that. Finish coat of arms assignment--share your work with your family and turn it in tomorrow.

6th Grade World Geography 3/16/09

Focus: ancient Mesopotamia

Classwork: Students write their initials in Mesopotamian Cuneiform writing on clay tablets while learning about the civilization, vocabulary: Cuneiform, scribe, stylus.

Work book: pages 128-130--read passages and answer questions.
Homework: review material covered in class.

Focus: Middle Ages

Classwork: complete vocabulary, make a pyramid shaped chart illustrating the feudal system and feudal relationships.

Read, pair, and share Chapter 9, lesson 1 from your textbook.

Homework: Get thinking about which project you want to work on--remember you have 3 choices 1. a castle, 2. Viking longship, 3. illuminated manuscript. Directions and due dates available on the blog by Monday, March 16th.

Remember to have a journal by Monday, March 16!

Over the last few days students have been presenting theri work to the class. We have had some very exciting presentations of the "Design your own Coat of Arms" project, and also presentations of European country assignments where students got to teach the class about the country they were assigned. Some students even had homework assignments for their classmates!
